چکیده

Lactoferrin (LF) is a multifunctional protein that is found in milk, neutrophils, and other biological fluids, and its receptors have also been identified in the central nervous system. Recently, we found that bovine milk-derived LF (BLF) produced analgesia via μ-opioid receptor-mediated response in the spinal cord. However, the precise mechanism of this analgesic effect remains unclear. In this study, spinally applied BLF produced analgesia that was reversed by co-administration with a nitric oxide (NO) synthase inhibitor, N-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), during phase 1 and phase 2 in the formalin test. CB1 cannabinoid receptors in amphibian spinal cord: relationships with some nociception markers.

The role of cannabinoids in spinal analgesia has so far been investigated in mammals and the interactions between cannabinoid receptors and markers involved in nociception have been described in the rat spinal cord. An endocannabinoid system is well developed also in the amphibian brain. However, the anatomical substrates of pain modulation have been scarcely investigated in anamniotes, neither...

Intravenous morphine increases release of nitric oxide from spinal cord by an alpha-adrenergic and cholinergic mechanism.

Systemic opioids produce analgesia in part by activating bulbospinal noradrenergic pathways. Spinally released norepinephrine (NE) has been suggested to produce analgesia in part by stimulating alpha2-adrenoceptors on cholinergic spinal interneurons to release acetylcholine (ACh). We hypothesized that this spinally released ACh would stimulate synthesis of nitric oxide (NO), and that spinally r...

Opioid mediated suppressive effect of milk-derived lactoferrin on distress induced by maternal separation in rat pups.

The present study assessed the effects of bovine milk-derived lactoferrin (bLf) on distress activities induced by maternal separation in 5- to 18-day-old rat pups. The rat pups were injected with BSA (100 mg/kg, i.p.; control) or bLf (100 mg/kg, i.p.) 30 min before the behavioral test. Distress activity was estimated by means of recording body movements or ultrasonic vocalizations (USVs). After...
